De-Worming

Worms are a major threat to the nutritional status and overall health of people all over the world. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), over 870 million children are at risk of parasitic worm infection. Worm infections interfere with nutrient uptake; can lead to anemia, malnourishment and impaired mental and physical development; and pose a serious threat to children’s health, education, and productivity.  By delivering Albendazole every six months to those susceptible, we can help to prevent worm infections and improve their nutritional well-being.

We have been building a de-worming program in Liberia since 2011.  Since then we have expanded our program to over a dozen orphanages and schools. We are beginning to integrate de-worming with our other programs in an effort to expand our program and to make it sustainable.

Additionally, we have developed partnerships with other organizations dedicated to de-worming in order to expand our program both in quantity of people reached and quality of intervention. With generous donations albendazole, Vitamin A, and pre-natal vitamins we have increased our distribution by several thousand this year. We plan to continue expanding this program until we have a nationwide distribution network.
